One of my favorite blogs I read is called Put This On. It’s a fashion blog made for guys in that awkward transition between the college T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers life into the professional working world of suits, ties, and wingtip shoes. The guys over there do really helpful and informative pod cast for the twenty something guy that isn’t really sure what he should be wearing and how it should be worn. This episode is all about dress shoes. A subject that I have been curious about but I’m totally unfamiliar with. This is a really good watch for people like me that are curious about the differences of dress shoes, the proper maintenance of dress shoes, and also the correct way to tie your shoes….Yes, you have probably been trying shoes the wrong way since day one.

Anyway check it out. You might learn something new.

Okay so for the past 6 months or so I have been looking for a new wrist watch. I have always loved the idea of having a collection of watches. I think I picked this up from my Dad who seemed to use the logic of each of his watches served a specific purpose. Seriously, he would have a watch for EVERYTHING he did; Gym Watch, Cooking Watch, Yard Watch, Weekend Watch, Camping Watch, Business Watch, The list could go on for ever.

For the past 3 years I have been wearing my Atmos x G-Shock that I paid waaaaaay too much for, but hey they only made 500 of them and it was only available in Tokyo. It has been an AWESOME watch and we have been through a lot together but I need something with a little more “grown up” appeal.

My Atmos x G-Shock

I know, I know. I sound like a total douche for saying I need a “grown up” watch, but sometimes G-Shocks just don’t fit in, yuh dig? Plus this logic helps me justify a reason to buy my new watch… The Seiko SNDA65.

Seiko SNDA65

I’m a SUPER indecisive guy so 6 months for hunting for the perfect watch isn’t all that long. I actually thought it was going to take longer. You have to think of it as this is more than a wrist watch. Its going to be something that is going to define you, something that other people will associate with you. The SNDA65 is that watch for me. Pure perfection in my book.

So its going to be sad to see the G-Shock be moved into the yard work/weekend category but I can’t wait put some miles on my new bff.

Spring footwear has always been a favorite of mine. Coming in second only to fall/winter footwear because who doesn’t love wearing boots? This year spring is looking great! To me spring footwear is all about breathable lightweight materials, clean light colors, and simple tight designs. I like to think of Spring footwear as Weekend Shoes. Shoes that you don’t have wear socks in and feel great about it…Lazy Sunday shoes.

Alife Spring 2010

ALIFE NYC – Alife started as one of my favorite clothing brands and now has become one of my favorite up and coming footwear designers. For this spring they are releasing three new ultra clean models. The Chuck Toe Canvas, the Indoor High Leather and the Kennedy High Suede. I’m really looking forward to the Chuck Toe Canvas shoe…I’m definitely feeling the navy pair.

Jordan Spring 2010

JORDAN BRAND - Do you remember that one pair of shoes you had as a kid that you loved, I mean like LOOOVED. The pair you wore until they were literally falling apart. Or that pair you always drooled over but you knew you could never get because there was no way your parents would pay $90 for a pair of sneakers. Well that’s kinda how I feel about Jordan brand. I love the fact that for the past ten years they have been re-releasing classic pairs Jordans. Shoes that I could only dream about can be once and for all mine. This season we get to see some of the best. The Jordan I, VI and XI.

VANS VAULT- Ahhhh Vans, Classic Classic Classic. To me Vans are the definition of Spring footwear. They score 100% on my must haves for Spring shoes check list. Light weight materials, Classic simple design, and light clean colors. Pictured above are Vans flip on the classic boat shoe. I’m eyeing that olive mid top hard.

GOURMET - Italian brand, Gourmet is is the newest kid on the block added to my list. I haven’t purchased a pair yet, but I have been following the brand from the start. This Spring looks like the best yet for the collection. I’m really interested in their version of the classic duck shoe pictured above. These are a little more expensive than the rest of the shoes on my list. Gotta start saving them pennies.

CLAE – Clae is a footwear company that started in Los Angeles and is also a noob in the footwear game. I like to think of Clae as the modern version of Vans. Both use classic simple design lines but Clae is a little bit more edgier when it comes to colors and textures. They are perfect for chillin’ with the homies or suiting up for a meeting with a client. Spring is looking awesome for these guys.

Brooklyn based artist KAWS who has worked with some of today’s biggest artist such as Kanye West, Tomoaki Nagao(BAPE Clothing), Takashi Murakami, and Pharrell Williams. Has now teamed up with Masamichi Katayam, owner of architectural firm Wonderwall to release two vinyl figures this month

I have been a huge fan of KAWS since I first saw a set of his prints waaaay back in 2002. I am also an avid collector of his vinyl figures. Which are EXTREMELY limited and can be a very expensive. For example his last two figures, the 4ft black dissected companion and the No Future companion retailed for $4200 and $1200. They both sold out within minutes which makes them even more desirable now, aka you gotta be Oprah rich to get them.

The Wonderwall figures are going to be a great addition to my collection. I can’t wait for them to drop.

Looks like Pentax is trying to make a come back into the point and shoot realm with two GREAT retro styled cameras, the Optio I-10 and H90 (pictured above). I for one am welcoming them back with open arms . I used to shoot with an old school SLR Pentax while I worked for the yearbook back in high school and loved it.

To separate them from the ho-hum boring silver or black bodied cameras you see everyday, Pentax pulled a back to the future and leaped back 25 years. The I-10 takes its styling from those same SLRs I used to used. While the H90 uses some of pentax’s retro color combos from the 80′s

Both cameras come with a 12.1 mega pixel sensor, 2.7 inch LCD, cool filters such as “toy camera” and “starburst”, annnnnd 720p HD video @ 30fps!!

The H90 is priced at a measly $179 (Great for those drunken wild parties or little adventures where you wouldn’t mind breaking your camera). While the I-10 gets beefier stats at a not so much beefier price, $299.

Both cameras are dropping this month so be on the look out. I have my eyes set on that orange one. Get ready for a more detailed review once I have my hands on it.

Vans and I have come a long way. There was a time not to long ago when I never looked twice at them.

Back when I started collecting shoes I was more interested in if the shoes were limited and had a small production run. It didn’t matter if they were the ugliest things in the world, the more limited they were the more I lusted for them. Now that I’m older and a more ‘educated’ footwear connoisseur I love them. Their simple, sleek minimalist styling and timeless designs are a combination that never fails. Now I’m not saying Vans are the second coming for sneakers, Trust me I’ve seen some HORRIBLE ones but you can’t not love them.

This coming winter we will see what looks like some new models along with some revamped classics for the OTW collection. I’m Loving the boot inspired pairs (pictured above). They are so simple and clean who wouldn’t? Not too sure if there’s anymore info about the collection other then they were on display at the Bright Tradeshow . I can tell you one thing for sure…You wont find them in Dallas which SUCKS!
